Donald Trump réclame la peine de mort contre l'auteur de l'attentat de New York

L'auteur de l'attentat de New York qui a fait huit morts mardi, assume son allégeance à l'EI et ne montre aucun regret pour ces actes. Le président Donald Trump réclame que lui soit infligée la peine de mort.

L'auteur présumé de l'attaque a été incarcéré dans une prison new-yorkaise.

L'homme, qui a fauché passants et cyclistes mardi à Manhattan, faisant huit morts et onze blessés, a déclaré aux enquêteurs être "satisfait" de son acte, a indiqué mercredi soir le parquet fédéral américain. Il a également revendiqué son appartenance à l'EI.

Selon la plainte déposée par le parquet après des interrogatoires à l'hôpital, où le suspect avait été transporté après avoir été blessé lors de son arrestation, cet Ouzbek de 29 ans arrivé aux Etats-Unis en 2010 n'a montré aucun regret après sa virée mortelle.

Il s'est dit "satisfait de ce qu'il a fait". Il a même demandé à pouvoir déployer le drapeau noir de l'Etat islamique (EI) dans sa chambre d'hôpital, selon les enquêteurs.

Inspiré par de nombreuses images de propagande de l'EI retrouvées dans ses deux téléphones portables, il préparait son attaque "depuis un an environ". Il s'était décidé pour une attaque au camion bélier il y a deux mois, indique la plainte du procureur.

Halloween pour la foule

Il a précisé avoir loué un camion le 22 octobre pour s'entraîner, et avoir choisi le jour d'Halloween "pour être sûr qu'il y aurait beaucoup de gens dans les rues," ajoute la plainte.

Après sa virée, il a crié "Allah Akhbar" ("Dieu est grand", en arabe) en sortant de son véhicule. S'il n'avait pas heurté un bus scolaire, l'homme prévoyait de faucher des piétons jusqu'au pont de Brooklyn, qui relie Manhattan à Brooklyn, a encore précisé le parquet. Le suspect a aussi reconnu être l'auteur des écrits en arabe mentionnant l'EI retrouvés à proximité du camion par les enquêteurs.

Si le parquet a souligné que l'enquête était encore loin d'être terminée, tous ces éléments ont permis de l'inculper rapidement. Il est déjà cité pour deux chefs d'inculpation fédérale - violence et destruction de véhicules et soutien à une organisation terroriste étrangère - qui l'exposent à la prison à perpétuité.

Peine de mort

Le procureur de Manhattan a même évoqué une procédure qui permettrait de requérir la peine de mort. Le président américain Donald Trump a, lui, réclamé sur son compte Twitter que l'auteur de l'attentat se voit infliger la peine de mort. Il avait déjà évoqué la possibilité de l'envoyer à Guantanamo.

 

 

Les deux chefs d'accusation lui ont été signifiés mercredi soir. Il a ensuite été incarcéré dans une prison new-yorkaise, selon le bureau du procureur.

Un second Ouzbek recherché dans l'enquête sur l'attaque au véhicule bélier a été localisé, a annoncé mercredi le directeur adjoint du bureau du FBI à New York. Selon des enquêteurs qui ont requis l'anonymat, le conducteur de la camionnette était en contact avec lui. Ils n'ont pas voulu donner d'autres précisions.
