The Israeli government is reportedly preparing to annex parts of the West Bank that were first occupied by the Israel Defence Force (IDF) in the 1967 Six-Day War. The annexation of up to 30 percent of the occupied Palestinian territory, deemed illegal under extant international law, would fulfill a campaign promise pledged by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during the recent general elections. The move has the full backing of the Trump administration ? which expressed its support for what it described as 'The Deal of the Century' back in January ? but is overwhelmingly rejected by most actors in the restive region, including Palestinian leaders and most Arab Israeli citizens.
